As already mentioned in the Tech section, using technology for us, rather than against us, is possible, even with "almost" conventional/everyday tools. And one of the devices that is used the most today, and that is very important to keep under our control, is the smartphone.
Using it less, or drop it completely may in fact be something to consider anyways and very seriously! But it is also possible to use it "differently", in a more aware and responsible way. The best way to go, so far, is using an Android based smartphone where the Google services have been removed from under the hood. It is not 100% safe and clean, there is still place for apps to sneak in and track you down and there is a deep part of the phone (kernel) that is not completely under control, but it is still a lot better than a standard Android phone, not even to mention Apple.
I have been using Google-free (or de-Googled) phones as well as Linux based phones since 2016, and I do not regret the choice, I in fact highly recommend it! Nor do I miss any particular function or app, because almost everything is possible with using friendly and Open Source apps.
If you can not figure out the process by yourself, I am happy to help out freeing you and your phone from Google, or eventually providing a ready-to-go Google-free phone, as well as educate you about what to do and how, encouraging a more reasonable use of these kind of devices. There are also several tablets that can be "cleaned up", and even some smart-watches!
Few words about Linux-based phones: currently, both the LibrePhone and the PinePhone are seeing fervent development, we maybe not be ready for the jump yet, but I think we are getting there! I tried several distros on my PinePhone, and landed with Arch for ARM as my favourite so far. Happy to share, if there may be interest
